The standing pilot system is a self-contained millivolt system. You do not need a 110 volt AC power source to operate the fireplace or stove. The millivolt model will operate during a power outage. The electronic model will not operate when there is a power outage.

Ironhaus produces a high-end line of gas and wood fireplaces with emphasis on handcrafted faces. We also provide glass and mesh enclosures for real masonry fireplaces.

Our fireplace systems are among the highest quality engineered designs available. Our focus is not to be the biggest, but, the best.

Our fireplace doors are easily installed with just a few common tools and by any handyman. Many of our customers elect to use their local dealers to do this, though, and it is often worth the cost to have a professional see it through for you. Our gas and wood fireplaces should be installed by a qualified installer.

Most of our finishes will last many years as long as care is taken in their use. Be careful not to build extremely hot or "flash" fires as they can impact the toughest of finishes. No corrosive cleaners or agents to clean rock, etc., during construction should be used either. Ironhaus finishes are "living" finishes made like the finishes on bronze statues and they may age gracefully over time. This actually creates more character and is consistent with the ambiance of our fireplace products.

Yes, within design detail and not within stuctural elements. Contact your dealer with ideas. Many people incorporate their family crest, a view out of a scenic window, or some architectural detail within their home. Have fun and be creative. That's what we are all about.

It is not uncommon for us to customize every hearth application within a home.
Some great uses are:

  • In the Great Room:
  • The Big Sky wood fireplace or The Yellowstone with our award winning Pocket Door enclosure for maximum "wow" factor.

  • Outside Deck
  • The Wilderness wood fireplace (use gas logs as a realistic option).

  • Master Bedroom
  • The Selway Direct Vent.

  • Family Room
  • The Selway or Yellowstone

See our gallery for other ideas - incorporate a central architectural detail, i.e: "the craftsman" in each room for each different fireplace system.

See the design offerings on each fireplace system brochure for our most popular combination.

Ironhaus works with factory engineers and testing laboratories to assure the safety of their product. Installing doors on a system that is untested is unsafe and not recommended. Ironhaus can apply our doors to any true masonry fireplace, but, will not knowingly sell a fireplace door for an untested product.

Contact a dealer in your area, or if one is not available, call us directly or email us so we can help you. If there is a dealer in your area, they are the authorized agent in helping you with your selections and installation.

If you building your dream home or just insist on having the highest quality hearth experience possible, you'll find Ironhaus perfectly matched your needs. Compared to a real masonry fireplace, expect to spend 1/3 to 1/2 as much. If you're lookig for a true handcrafted effect, we are about the same or a little more expensive than most of the fireplaces available at other dealer showrooms. Most of our customers emphaticlly insist that an Ironhaus fireplace is one of the best decisions made to their home.

There tends to be two extremes with wood burning fireplaces. The expensive, heavy time consuming but beautiful masonry fireplace and the ugly, production black box fireplace. We take the light weight inexpensive, engineering concepts of a production fireplace and detail them with what matters- real function and handmade fireplace enclosures. We’re the fireplaces in the middle. Less expensive than a true masonry (up to half the price), yet light weight and with true quality.

Our fireplaces are much safer in an earthquake then true masonry fireplace are, and because every one of our fireplaces features a beautiful but utilitarian enclosure, smoke, sparks etc are controlled.

Ironhaus woodburning fireplaces are comparable to a masonry fireplace as far as efficiencies are concerned. The real brick on the interior of the Teton, Big Sky & Wilderness radiates the heat into the room, the refractory panel in the pioneer work in a similar manner. Combining these units with glass doors will also provide convection heat to the room.

Ironhaus greatly encourages the use of our ceramic glass especially in larger fireplace applications unlike true glass; ceramic glass withstands continuous exposure to high temperatures without fear of destruction. It is also resistant to failure due to temperature variation. It is the ideal solution for many wood stoves and fireplaces where glass panels are less than 6 inches from the flames.  Continuous temperatures up to 1470° F (700° C) can be withstood because this ceramic has an extremely low thermal coefficient of expansion. It doesn't run or swell at high temperatures the way normal glass does. Tempered glass comes standard with glass doors unless ceramic is selected. Tempered glass is regular glass that has been heat treated to increase strength and thermal shock resistance to prevent injury by changing the break pattern. Tempered glass is used in applications where heat, mechanical strength and safety are a factor. For example, the glass on motor vehicles is tempered to make it strong and less dangerous when it shatters or breaks. Tempered glass is also used in fireplace doors, on masonry and prefabricated fireplaces equipped with a grate to hold the burning wood. Tempered glass can withstand constant temperatures of 470° F. If tempered glass is exposed to higher temperatures, it gradually weakens the structure of the glass thus making it more susceptible to breakage. If a piece of tempered glass is exposed to continuous temperatures of 600° F or more, the glass will shatter into small pieces.

Ironhaus wood burning fireplaces are UL tested to be used with air cooled pipe rather then insulated class A pipe. While, class A pipe is indeed smaller overall, diameter air cooled pipe accomplishes the same task at a substantially lower price point .

All of our wood burning units are also rated for gas. If you are considering converting to gas at some point in the future then it is wise to pipe for the gas at the same time of the fireplace installation. Talk to your sales person about which gas log set would work best with your fireplace.

An Ironhaus face attaches to the framework of the fireplace differently on each model. Great care has been taken to ensure that the inside glass door is still operable and that the controls remain accessible after attaching the face.

Direct vent fireplaces are a closed system and require a sealed glass face; the face that comes with the fireplace. Ironhaus door systems have undergone testing to ensure that they are safe and do not interfere with the operation of the fireplace. An additional set of glass doors would affect both safety and operation of your direct vent fireplace.

An Ironhaus face is easily removed. We actually suggest you remove it during the construction phase and store it in a safe place.

Blowers are optional accessories on some Ironhaus gas appliances. Refer to your manual to determine if your model allows for a blower. Adding a blower is easily accomplished if 110 volts AC was provided to the electrical junction box of the fireplace or a 110 volt AC outlet was installed near the fireplace or wall mount system at the time of the initial installation.

If your gas appliance has a standing pilot it will operate during a power outage. If you have the optional blower installed in your gas appliance or the fireplace in which the log set is installed, the blower will not operate if the power goes out.

You can safely leave your pilot burning year round. However, Ironhaus recommends the pilot be turned off during the off-season. This will conserve fuel and preserve the batteries in remote controls (where applicable). The pilot will require servicing to remove foreign particles such as lint, dust, etc. that accumulate during the summer months. Please refer to your owner's manual for proper cleaning instructions.

The direct vent systems have a fixed glass front, which seals the gas burner and combustion firebox off from your home. Air for combustion used by the fireplace comes from outside the home through a vent pipe. A smaller pipe inside the fresh air pipe carries all combustion products to the outside. The vent can be run horizontally through an outside wall or vertically through the roof.

The frequency of your gas appliance servicing and maintenance will depend on use and type of installation. Check the owner's manual for recommendations. You should have a qualified service technician perform an appliance check-up at the beginning of each heat season.

The installation of a direct vent appliance is allowable in a bedroom or any other room in by the National Fuel Gas Standards. Check your local codes to ensure there are no local restrictions.

Most Ironhaus gas fireplaces models can be ordered for use with natural or propane gas. If you have purchased an appliance with an incorrect gas orifice or if you have changed to a different type of fuel at your home, you may need a conversion kit. Contact your nearest dealer to determine if your model can be converted. Use only approved conversion kits. All conversion kits must be installed by a qualified installer for the certification and warranty of the fireplace to remain valid.

A direct vent fireplace is a sealed combustion fireplace. Doors must be shut and sealed for proper ventilation during the operation. If the glass door assembly and venting pipe are not properly seated, connected, and sealed, combustion by-products may leak into the home.

No spark at the pilot is an indication of a loose connection, a bad ground, or cracked ceramic around the electrode.

Check to ensure electrode wire is connected at the push button igniter (where applicable) and at the electrode. Loose connections can be tightened by gently squeezing the loose connection with small pliers. If the piezo is held in place by a nut, ensure the nut is tightened properly. A cracked ceramic igniter must be replaced.

If your fireplace or stove is experiencing pilot or burner outage, the gas appliance may need to be cleaned. Please refer to your owner's manual for specific cleaning instructions for your model.

The pilot flame heats a thermocouple that produces DC millivolts to energize the control valve. This allows the pilot to remain lit after releasing the control knob.

A dirty pilot may not produce enough heat to generate sufficient voltage to operate the control valve. Cleaning may be necessary.

Check the pilot flame to ensure it is burning a solid blue flame. A loose thermocouple connection may be at fault. To check the connection, loosen thermocouple and tighten it finger tight, then turn an additional 1/4 turn. If the problem continues, contact your nearest service center or qualified gas technician to have the unit serviced.

Check your gas supply shut off valves to make sure the gas is turned on. Most gas appliances have lighting instructions attached. Wall units or log sets will have hang tags or a decal affixed to the side or grate of the unit. Fireplace systems will have metal rating plates or vinyl tags attached to the leg support in the lower compartment. If the instructions can not be located please refer to the owner's manual for your model appliance.

LP/Propane wall mount space heaters, gas logs, and fireplace systems require a minimum 100 lb. size propane cylinder for proper operation. The vaporization rate of the fuel in smaller sized tanks can not keep up with the fuel requirements for the appliance. This will cause the liquid propane in the tank to freeze. Refer to the installation manual for proper gas pipe sizing especially if you have more than one gas appliance.

Direct vent and B-vent (natural vent) appliances use a specific direct vent or b-vent pipe to vent combustion gases to the outdoors. Configurations for specific pipes vary depending on the individual installation. See the installation instructions in the manual for your specific model to ensure the proper pipe size and configuration is used for your application.

Contact your local dealer, or if one is not available fill out the information in the Ironhaus configurator for your elite masonry enclosure. An Ironhaus representative will contact you.

Masonry fireplace doors do not require a UL rating because all masonry fireplaces are different. Make sure your fireplace doors are inspected by an expert before safely installing the glass.

Neoceram will not break due to thermal changes and radiates more heat; it is also more expensive. Neoceram is highly recommended in cold winter climates.

Of course, choose either neoceram or tempered glass then choose the inset mesh option which is an independent set of doors.

You can opt for combining screen and glass in one panel resulting in a glass surface that is tones down by screen in front of it. Or you can order replacement screen panels.

See installation FAQ.

Backflanges protrude back from the door, face towards the unit. You can determine your ideal backflange depth by taking the depth of the facing that is to be applied around the doors and subtracting your desired amount of recess from the doors to your facing. Ironhaus suggests a recess of at least 3” on arched doors.

Outflanges are connected to the backflange at the point of connection with the fireplace unit. These flanges are used to fasten the enclosure to the fireplace. If you are putting the enclosure on a new masonry fireplace then you may need to request long outflanges, depending on how far it is from the inside of the firebox to a solid surface that you will be able to fasted them to. Ironhaus will not knowingly provide outflanges to facilitate application to an unapproved manufactured fireplace.

Ironhaus Uses a heavy ¼” thick steel in the majority of its enclosure construction. We typically use 1/8” steel to create the outflanges, this saves you on weight, cost and space.

You can easily install an Ironhaus wood fireplace by carefully following the installation steps outlined in the owner’s manual. See our Architect and Builder Resource to download the manual for your fireplace. Ironhaus suggests using a qualified installer to install your gas fireplace.

With the exception of the Big Sky, all of IRONHAUS units can be installed directly on a combustible base. Refer to the installation / owners manual for directions. The Big Sky needs to have a non combustible base. A 4” hearth spacer is available from IRONHAUS should the application require it.

The Teton, Pioneer, Wilderness, and Big Sky Wood Burning Fireplaces use a 12” double wall air cooled pipe. This pipe has a 15” outside diameter and requires 2” of clearance to combustibles on all sides. The Sawtooth, Selway, and Yellowstone Gas Fireplaces use direct vent 5’x8” pipe which requires 2” of clearance to combustibles on all sides. See the owners’ manual for more information.

Downloadable framing dimensions and fireplace specifications are available for each unit at http://www.ironhaus.com/architects or click on Specs in the menu. They are also in the downloadable owner’s manual.
