Making Spirits Bright -& Creative- This Season at Ironhaus

Our shop, like a certain other workshop in the North Pole, is at its busiest right now. It’s not all custom fireplace doors, screens and enclosures though. This post we’re sharing a bit of the season and one specific “reindeer game” that happens here at Ironhaus’ Hamilton, Montana headquarters.

Our lead designer & “head elf” Tim Campbell at Christmas!

During the busiest season, which is also the merriest season for many, we try to keep a bit of cheer and fun in the shop. Fun helps to keep creativity and precision close as we design, measure, check, heat, bend, hammer, twist and finish each piece to order.

Something not widely known is that we hold a small “in-haus” contest each Christmas holiday for the artists in the shop.

Bright, hot iron being shaped on an anvil.

Can you guess what the contest IS?

(hint: what goes with fireplaces & chimneys at Christmas?)

We hold a Stocking Hanger Contest!

A little creativity, a bit of cheer and good competitive fun go into creating iron stocking hangers.

It really gives a boost of energy, gets the brain going in a different -yet similar- direction…plus, as mentioned before, there are PRIZES!

Awards go for

  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd places
  • categories are funniest, most beautiful, and most creative.

If nothing else, it’s a nice break that refreshes us to get back to the precision work and pile of orders at hand.

Speaking of custom orders…

Here’s a piece we finished up recently and sent out. We just got the picture below this week:

Take a look at the “first fire” in Derek & Erin Ray’s home, complete with “stockings hung by the chimney with care.”
The Ray’s chose the Mountain/Lodge Style for this fireplace and they write, “First set of doors installed & fire burning! They are beautiful & couldn’t have fit more perfect! Thank you!”

Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful picture of your first fire, Derek & Erin!
