Friday Favorites: The Oscars, Prefab of the Future, Mardi Gras

And the Winner is…

The Friday before the Oscars and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention them in my Friday Favorites. If you’re wondering how the Hollywood elite who are presenting and waiting for that envelope to open to reveal their name are going to be spending those moments of anticipation wonder no more. David Rockwell has designed this warm, inviting Green Room for them. I’d love to be the proverbial fly on the wall in this room:

What sort of festivities are you planning for the evening? Tell me in the comments section below. As of yet I have no plans so maybe you can inspire me to put together a swank celebration of my own.

Prefab of the Future

You may be curious how sprawling urban areas are going to deal with an increase in the population, at Brooklyns’ Navy Yard where one manufacturing is building 450- to 950-square-foot apartments that will click and seal together to form the largest modular high-rise building in the world. Are we seeing the future with this type of design? It certainly addresses urban sprawl and the manufacturing processes used are innovative to say the least. Instead of your typical assembly line process, they are using what they call group technology workcells, where multidisciplinary groups of tradesmen work on different parts of the floor simultaneously. At Ironhaus we appreciate innovative production processes. We can’t wait to see how this project shapes up and what it means for professionals and homeowners.

It’s Mardi Gras Time

It’s time to gather up your beads, masks, and costumes for the Carnival Season. If you’re lucky enough to be spending some time in New Orleans this year for the festivities and even if you’re not, aside from the food and drink available, New Orleans is host to some of the most compelling architecture and design in the country.
